Valentine’s decor

Is it just me or does your house also feel super empty after all the Christmas decorations are put away? Our house feels so cozy at Christmas and when its time to pack it away, I feel like my house needs a little pick me up. Enter Valentine’s day. Now, I’m not suggesting you should post cupids and cut out hearts all over your house or anything. Valentine’s decor can be as simple as keeping out your red Christmas pillows but adding a pink a pillow to the mix.

Growing up, my mom loved her Christmas tree so much. She once said she was going to leave it up until Valentine’s Day and decorate it with hearts. Our entire family laughed at her and told her she was nuts. So of course she had to make a point after that. She left her tree up until the week before Valentine’s Day and she finally took off all the ornaments… but she replaced them with red and pink garland and lots of tiny hearts. Now, I’m not suggesting you do that. Please don’t. It’s actually a major fire hazard if you have a real tree like we did. But, there is nothing wrong with trading out that Christmas wreath for a heart shaped wreath or switching that greenery on your mantel for some heart garland!

This year I decided to incorporate red, pink and white for my Valentine’s decor. I brought those colors into my kitchen and family room to warm it up after it seemed so empty after Christmas. Most of my furnishings are neutral so it is easy to bring in a new color scheme with pillows, throws, books and other decor items.

Filling apothecary jars with Valentine’s candy is a budget-friendly way to incorporate color into your decor while being festive at the same time. I used four bags of pink, red and white Hershey’s kisses to fill one jar. The other jar I filled with four bags of pink, red and white peanut butter M&Ms. You can easily add colorful candy to your apothecary jars for under $20.00. Glass apothecary jars are inexpensive as well, I have sourced some options for you below. I like to get mine at Homegoods or At Home given how often I end up breaking them when I wash them.

I’m usually not a fan of place mats, but I could not resist these heart place mats by Opal House at Target. And let’s be honest, who can leave Target with only the things that you came for? Not me. While I was at Target I also spotted this adorable heart-shaped wreath with faux olive leaves.

The garlands on my vent hood are both Homegoods finds, but I have linked some similar ones below.

With white couches, it is very easy to change up my color scheme by simply changing my pillows and the decor on my coffee table. Most of these seasonal pillows I get from scouring my local Homegoods stores. There are also great pillow covers to be found on Etsy. Once you have good inserts, changing out your pillow covers is easier and much easier on your bank account. In addition to being more economical, buying pillow covers makes them much easier to store in your linen closet.

As an avid reader, I am always on the lookout for good books. I find my coffee table books at used book stores, the discount rows at Barnes and Noble and even Homegoods. All of the books on my coffee table are a shade of pink and I have sourced them for you below. You can get all three for less than $65.00 on Amazon.
